01 / Short answer
Treat the controller, driver, reset access and replacement path as part of the luminaire design.
Designers and factories planning a smart fixture revision
CHECKPOINT / 01
Keep the physical and control boundaries visible
A serviceable fixture lets a technician identify the light engine, driver, controller carrier, connector and reset point without dismantling the whole ceiling. The body can remain unchanged while a tested control variant evolves.
CHECKPOINT / 02
Record decisions that create rework
Capture cutout, depth, thermal path, driver location, connector access, strain relief, firmware recovery and target-market compliance before sampling. Leave a revision log explaining what changed and which tests must be repeated.
- Leave access for reset and replacement.
- Do not bury the controller behind a sealed driver cavity.
- Provide a fixture-only route when smart electronics are not required.
FAILURE MODES
What usually goes wrong
- The controller cannot be reset after installation.
- The fixture image is treated as proof of the selected smart variant.
- A driver change invalidates thermal or compatibility assumptions without a new revision.
TECHNICAL BASIS / VERSION
Keep the decision current
This guide is maintained as a versioned technical record. Recheck the current protocol documentation and the exact product revision before using it in a production installation.
Confirm the selected voltage, light engine, driver, controller, firmware and installation conditions against the product record and project brief.
