Zigbee LED lighting: verify the coordinator and gateway path

Build Zigbee LED lighting around the exact driver or fixture, coordinator, device definition, endpoint mapping, mesh placement and gateway requirement.

Working principle

A Zigbee gateway or coordinator is required, and ZHA, Zigbee2MQTT and Tuya Gateway are separate validation paths. Documentation reviewed 29 August 2026 / exact device validation still matters.

01 / What this path means

Compatibility is a chain, not a badge.

For Zigbee, the useful question is not whether a product says “smart”. It is whether the physical light, controller or driver, network path and integration expose the behavior your project needs.

Start with the exact light engine, voltage, channels or LED IC. Then match the firmware, controller, coordinator or gateway and record what was actually tested.

Questions to answer before purchase

  • Is control local, cloud-based or gateway-dependent?
  • Which exact firmware, app, coordinator or integration version is in scope?
  • Which entities, channels or effects are exposed, and which remain unavailable?
  • What happens after a restart, a lost network or a factory reset?

Evidence language

Tested: a published test record exists for the stated setup. Documented: the setup path is described, but the exact installation still needs the stated checks.

Community config: the path is useful with community configuration and is not factory-supported. Planned: a possible future route and is not a buying promise. Unsupported: the current record does not support this path.

02 / Follow the complete route

See the control chain before choosing a variant.

The route card keeps the physical light, control layer and extra system pieces together. Use it as a planning frame; exact compatibility still belongs to the selected SKU and variant.

Zigbee + Home Assistant

BEST VALUE / EVERYDAY LIGHTING

A strong default for dimming, tunable white and a growing local-first home when you are willing to run Home Assistant.

Complete stack: Light / driver -> Zigbee -> coordinator -> ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT -> Home Assistant

Best for
CCT, downlights, room lighting and many devices
System cost
High value when a Home Assistant host already exists
Needs
Home Assistant host, one Zigbee coordinator and an exact supported device definition.

Tradeoff: You own the host, backups, pairing and mesh placement. It is not the simplest path for zero maintenance, and it is not the output path for per-pixel effects.

03 / Products carrying this path

Match the implementation, not just the ecosystem.

These catalog records are filtered from the current product set. Each still has its own physical specifications, variant choices and evidence boundary.
